Chris Packham felt suicidal after his dog died

VacationHunter — Chris Packham was left feeling suicidal after his dog passed away.
The 62-year-old TV presenter – who is best known for hosting ‘Springwatch’ – admits that he contemplated taking his own life after his beloved dog died.
During an appearance on the ‘Men in Mind’ podcast, Chris shared: “I was suicidal … but I didn’t have enough pills. That’s what it came down to.”
The TV star turned to therapy sessions in a bid to overcome his struggles.
He said: “It was like I got hit by a train. It was like I was winded, I could barely breathe because of everything that was coming out and it had been locked up for so long.”
Despite this, Chris’ other pets actually kept him going.
He explained: “I’d started to spend a lot of time in France, and I was on my own there for quite long periods, and on another occasion, I came very close to killing myself.
“And what kept me alive were the dogs, I just looked down and I thought, ‘I can’t leave them’. It was the fact that there wasn’t anyone else at that point who could have loved them as much as I did.”
Meanwhile, Chris previously admitted that he struggled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the veteran presenter also found the time to “appreciate” wildlife.
He said on ‘Springwatch’ at the time: “There’s not a morning I don’t wake up and think, ‘This isn’t happening.’
“There’s never been a more important time for us to take the time to appreciate the wildlife outside our window.”
