Meghan Markle to give speech at wedding?
ICONINSIDER — Meghan Markle could be set to give a speech at her own wedding.
The 36-year-old American actress is set to tie the knot with Prince Harry in May this year, and although it is against royal tradition, she could be set to stand up and give a speech in front of their guests, as it has been claimed her father Thomas – who is expected to walk her down the aisle – isn’t likely to give a speech of his own.
A source told The Times newspaper: “The feeling is that if Meghan’s father doesn’t speak for her, she wants to have the chance to thank her husband and everyone who has supported them. Harry thinks that this is a great idea.”
The former ‘Suits’ actress and the 33-year-old royal will tie the knot on May 19 at St George’s Chapel, which will see them able to invite around 800 guests to watch the ceremony.
Meghan’s decision to give her own speech at her wedding comes as the latest in a line of breaks of tradition for the royal family’s newest couple, after it was previously reported that Prince Harry had clashed with his father Prince Charles over some of the details of his big day.
Charles, 69, was said to be keen for the engaged couple to hire is former valet, Michael Fawcett, as the wedding’s chief organiser, but the suggestion reportedly went down like a “lead balloon” with Harry and Meghan.
A source added: “The Prince of Wales thinks Michael is a wonderful events organiser. But the suggestion has created tensions.”
It comes after it was previously reported that the happy couple were opting for a “fun and quirky” ceremony, as neither of them want to follow the traditional “white and classic” wedding pitched to them by royal aides.
An insider said: “They want it to be fun and reflective of themselves as a couple and of their family and friends that will be there. It will still very much be a royal wedding – just not a traditional one.”
