Natalie Dormer defends Game of Thrones’ ‘dirty and real’ sex scenes

ICONINSIDER — Natalie Dormer doesn’t have a problem with ‘Game of Thrones’ sex scenes – because they are “real and dirty”.
The 36-year-old star played Margaery Tyrell in the HBO fantasy drama for five years, and thinks such intimate scenes on TV dramas are fine, as long as they are “not glamorised”, because they show “raw, visceral qualities” of life.
She said: “Sex and romance is a huge part of human motivation. So long as it’s informing the story then I don’t see the problem.
“But I think ‘Thrones’ is quite good in that way. The violence is quite naturalistic.
“It’s not hyper-stylised. It’s not glamorised. And the sex is quite real and dirty as well.
“It’s about those raw, visceral qualities of human life.”
While her character was killed off in the show’s dramatic sixth season finale, Natalie loves being a fan of the programme and can now enjoy the episodes without knowing any spoilers.
She said: “Five years was the perfect time. Now I get the best of both worlds because I can watch it on my sofa and get a kick out of it, going, ‘Oh my God – they’ve done what?’ ”
As well as appearing scantily-clad in ‘Game of Thrones’, Natalie did the same for recent film ‘In Darkness’ – which she co-wrote with her fiance, Anthony Byrne – but insists it was necessary to act out sex scenes in the thriller to “be true to the genre”.
She added to The Sun newspaper: “There has to be sexuality in the power play of a thriller.
“We have all got bodies, after all. In a thriller the protagonists always have to join together somehow and sex represents that connection.
“If you are being true to the genre, you have to show this.”
