Kelly Ripa ‘proud’ of her son

ICONINSIDER — Kelly Ripa is “really proud” of her son for battling through his dyslexia.
The 47-year-old television host has admitted her youngest son Joaquin, 14, has been “such a trooper” during his ongoing struggle with the common learning difficulty which causes problems with reading, writing and spelling.
Speaking on her talk show ‘Live With Kelly and Ryan’ alongside co-host Ryan Seacrest, Kelly became emotional when speaking about her son, as she said: “I’ve told this story before so forgive me if you’re bored of it, but in first grade, he was in the same school as my other two kids. And in first grade they do the First Grade Book Fair, where the kids, the first graders, have all written their own book. And the parents come in and you go to the book fair and your child stands up and shows you the book that they wrote.
“And he was showing us everybody else’s book. He did not want us to see his book. I’m sorry, I don’t know why I’m [crying]. Maybe, I don’t know, maybe it’s hormones.
“But anyway, I remember thinking ‘We’re going to have to find another school.’ It became clear to us that we were going to have to find another school. And we did, and we’ve been so so fortunate, and he’s been such a trooper and so fortunate to really trust us as parents and really trust his own instincts.
“Anyway, I’m really proud. I’m proud of him.”
Ryan, 42, was seen getting emotional as he listened to Kelly – who also has Michael, 20, and Lola, 16, with her husband Mark Consuelos – speak, before telling her that he considers her a “role model”.
He added: “I see the way that you handle [your] career and, most importantly, family and a husband and kids. And it is so impressive. When my mom cries, it makes me cry. So when you’re crying, this is making me cry.”
