Sarah Lancashire joins new Channel 4 drama

ICONINSIDER — Sarah Lancashire has joined the cast of Channel 4’s new abduction drama ‘Kiri’.
The BAFTA award-winning ‘Happy Valley’ actress has been cast as Miriam, the social worker who plans to have Kiri meet her biological parents but she disappears during the visit, and it’s up to Miriam to try and clear her name for her murder.
Writer Jack Thorne said: “My mum spent most of her life in the caring professions and I’ve always wanted to find a way of examining the pressures they are out under.
“I’m, so grateful as always for the bravery and brilliance of Channel 4 in being prepared to look these issues in the face.”
‘Kiri’, which is a four-part serial drama, also stars ‘Luther’ actor Lucian Msamati and ‘The Missing’s Lia Williams.
Beth Willis, Channel 4 head of drama, said: “We are so honoured and excited to have Jack return to Channel 4 for ‘Kiri’.
“Jack’s characters are uncompromising and contradictory and always utterly, recognisably human – his typical wit and warmth blast off the page right from the start.
“We are so thrilled to have the perfect Sarah Lancashire bringing the funny, bold and troubled Miriam to life.”
Sarah’s move to the new Channel 4 drama could be another factor for the delayed return of the hit show ‘Happy Valley’.
The popular crime drama hasn’t been on screens since the beginning of last year and, although the show’s writer Sally Wainwright has confirmed she’s going to pen another instalment, fans are in for disappointment as executive producer Nicola Shindler has revealed the talented creator is tied up with another show for the BBC at the moment.
