Vic Reeves to play TV presenter in Coronation Street

ICONINSIDER — Vic Reeves is set to play a television presenter in ‘Coronation Street’.
The 58-year-old comedian – who has been a lifelong fan of the soap – has managed to bag the role of Colin, who arrives in Weatherfield to film Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) and his friend Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) for a new small screen segment, in the show and will start shooting his three-month stint in two months’ time.
Vic – whose real name is Jim Moir – said: “I’ve been a lifelong fan of ‘Corrie’. In fact, I think I saw the very first one. I try not to miss any episodes. I’m really looking forward to acting in ‘Corrie’. It’s a real thrill to be part of a British Institution.”
Kieran Roberts, the programme’s executive producer, added: “Jim is such a well-loved entertainer and a brilliant actor so we’re thrilled he’s joining the cast of ‘Corrie’.”
Vic’s role comes just two years after he begged producers to give him a part in the soap by suggesting he could play the long-lost son of newsagent’s boss Norris but, despite his pleas, he was never offered the role.
He said at the time: “I have watched ‘Coronation Street’ since I was little and have never ever missed an episode. For me it’s the greatest TV. I’d love to be on ‘Coronation Street’, it would make my life complete.”
Meanwhile, Vic is certainly set for a busy rest of the year as him and Bob Mortimer recently revealed they are making a one-off special of ‘Big Night Out’ for the BBC.
The popular duo became household names on the cult comedy series that aired for just 15 episodes on Channel 4 from 1990 until 1991 and they’ve promised to go back to “their stage roots” in the forthcoming show.
The pair – whose show was based on their stand-up gigs at Goldsmiths Tavern in South London – said: “This is the show we wanted to perform back in the 1980s. Now the time is right. We will be increasing our respective heights in order to perform some of the more intricate and challenging moments.”
The half-hour special will include cameos from new stars as well as old fan favourites.
