Queen Elizabeth invited Tim Peake to dinner

ICONINSIDER — Queen Elizabeth has had dinner with astronaut Major Tim Peake.
The 90-year-old monarch invited the British astronaut and his wife Rebecca to Windsor Castle on Monday (03.04.17) for a special dinner in celebration of Tim becoming the first Briton to form part of the crew of the International Space Station (ISS).
The dinner comes as one of many hosted by the Queen as part of her Easter Court, when she takes up residence at the Berkshire castle for a month during the spring and hosts dinner parties for famous guests which have previously included Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, and James Bond star Daniel Craig.
According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, the events are known as “dine and sleep” as guests are offered a room in the castle to stay the night after their meal.
And it isn’t the first time 44-year-old Tim has had contact with the Queen either, as he previously corresponded with the monarch whilst he was in orbit during a historic six-month European Space Agency mission which he returned from in June.
After Queen Elizabeth sent him well wishes, Tim became the first astronaut to deliver a “God save the Queen” message directly to the royal when he spoke with her via a video message live from the ISS.
Tim was also made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the monarch’s birthday honours, making him the first person to be honoured while in space.
Queen Elizabeth, Tim, and his wife were joined by the Queen’s husband Prince Philip at the dinner, along with the Belgian ambassador, the Brazilian ambassador, the former Bishop of London the Right Reverend and Right Honourable Richard Chartres, and the head of Eton College Simon Henderson.
