David Morrissey to star in The City and The City

ICONINSIDER — David Morrissey will star in BBC Two’s adaptation of ‘The City & the City’.
The 52-year-old actor has landed the lead role in the TV series, based on the science fiction novel by China Miéville.
‘The Young Pope’ writer Tony Grisoni has teamed up with ‘Poldark’ and ‘Victoria’ production company Mammoth Screen to make the show and ‘The Missing’ actor David couldn’t be happier about it.
He said: “I am delighted to be working with the brilliant Tony Grisoni again on this exciting project. I am a huge fan of the original book by China Miéville.”
Miéville added: “It’s been fascinating and moving to witness the translation from fiction to script, and to work with Tony and Tom (Shankland) and everyone on this production.
“What they’re making feels both familiar, sending me right back to the book, and yet very much their own, something I’m eager to discover. I’m extremely impatient for it!”
David will play Inspector Tyador Borlú in the procedural drama, which focuses on the discovery of a female student’s body in the city of Besźel.
Mandeep Dhillon, Danny Webb and Ron Cook will co-star in the project, which began shooting in Liverpool this week.
‘The City & The City’ producer Betsan Morris Evans told The Liverpool Echo: “Filming in Liverpool is a great experience. The city has a wealth of fantastic, versatile locations – both interior and exterior. The film office have supported our production fully, nothing is too much trouble and they have impressed me with their amazing can do attitude. I would come back here every time if I could.”
